Lam Dong: Provincial leaders welcome the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Receiving and working with the delegation, Lam Dong province was represented by Mr. Tran Van Hiep - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, as well as leaders of departments and agencies.
During the reception, Mr. Kees van Baar expressed his excitement and gratitude for the warm welcome from the leaders of Lam Dong Province. According to Mr. Kees van Baar, the cooperation between the Netherlands and Lam Dong Province still has untapped potential, especially in the fields of agriculture, export-import of agricultural products, and flower varieties.
During the working session, Mr. Tran Van Hiep - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - provided an overview of the economic, social, and human aspects of Lam Dong. With the relentless efforts of the government and the people, Lam Dong Province is currently ranked 20th nationwide, with positive changes and improvements in the quality of life for people of all ethnic groups.
Lam Dong Province is leading the country in tea cultivation and ranks second in coffee cultivation, while also being the capital of silk with over 80% of the area dedicated to it. Tourism and services account for 40% of the economic structure".
In recent times, Lam Dong Province has attracted investments from Dutch businesses, particularly in high-tech agriculture for growing vegetables and flowers. However, the province's exports to the Dutch market still face limitations and have not fully matched the potential and opportunities of Lam Dong. The leaders of Lam Dong Province also expressed their desire for further development in the cooperation between the two sides.
On behalf of the leaders of Lam Dong Province, Mr. Tran Van Hiep expressed his gratitude for the support from the Ambassador and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Vietnam and expressed the desire to continue developing the relationship between the two sides, fostering positive diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the Netherlands over the past 50 years. Furthermore, Lam Dong Province pledged to support localities in ensuring all agricultural products, including coffee, meet the European Union's standards.
On the morning of May 22, during the field visit to Di Linh district - where the organization IDH (headquartered in the Netherlands) has cooperated in building sustainable coffee landscape areas - IDH and the Dutch Embassy in Vietnam, together with the local authorities, are developing a map with information systems on coffee-growing areas in Di Linh and Lac Duong, and categorizing coffee production areas based on the risk of losing the forest.
According to the new regulations of the European Union, products such as coffee, cocoa, wood, and rubber originating from deforested and degraded land after December 31, 2020, will not be exported to this market. At the same time, they are supporting localities in tracing the origin of coffee-growing areas and promoting diverse livelihoods for areas at high risk of deforestation, aiming for sustainable and low-emission production.
During the working session, Mr. Dinh Van Tuan - Secretary of the Di Linh District Party Committee, provided an overview of the economic and social development of Di Linh district, particularly the potential for tourism and agriculture in the area.
Mr. Dinh Van Tuan - Secretary of the Di Linh District Party Committee - expressed his hope that the Embassy of the Netherlands, together with IDH and companies and enterprises, would find ways to overcome difficulties so that the entire coffee area in Di Linh could be traceable and meet the requirements of the European market. This would bring economic benefits to the local area and improve the lives of the people.
