The Port of Laem Chabang is the third largest port in Thailand, and it was created to take some of the burgeoning commercial traffic that was overloading the Port of Bangkok. It is also the major cruise port for Bangkok. In 2007, the American Association of Port Authorities (APPA) ranked the Port of Laem Chabang as the 21st busiest container port in the world. The local economy is based on shipping, retail, and tourism. The Port of Laem Chabang is home to the world-class golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus at the Laem Chabang International Country Club and an ExxonMobil refinery.

Laem Chabang include three Phase:
Phase I: Consists of a 400x3,600 meters basin with a 14-meter depth from MSL; and a breakwater of 1,300 meters in length. It can accommodate large cargo ships of 30,000-50,000 DWT. There are 11 berths, namely A0-A5 and B1-B5, with a collective capacity to accommodate 4 million TEUs of containers per year. Also, there is a shipyard available for ship building and repairing
.
Phase II: Consists of a 500x4,100 meters basin with 16-meter depth from MSL; and a breakwater of 1,900 meters in length. It can accommodate the cargo ships with a very large size as those of 80,000 DWT. There are 7 berths, C0-C3 and D1-D3, with a collective capacity for accommodating 6.8 million TEUs of the containers per year.
Phase III: It is in the process of designing for the construction. It covers an area of about 640 acres (256 hectares). The port would be 4,500 meters in length and 18 meters in depth from MSL. There will be 9 berths in total including 1 Ro/Ro terminal for vehicle carriers; 1 terminal for cargo ships; and 7 terminals for container ships alone. This project will be able to accommodate 8 million TEUs of containers per year; as well as 1 million motor vehicles per year.
