The Spirit of the Great Spring Victory

"Ba Ria – Vung Tau is a heroic land that has inscribed glorious pages in the history of the nation's struggle for liberation and reunification. The achievements and resilient, indomitable traditions of the army and people here will forever be a source of pride and great motivation for us to continue building an increasingly prosperous and developed homeland," stated General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense.

Speaking at the ceremony, Provincial Party Secretary Pham Viet Thanh affirmed that 50 years ago, under the brilliant leadership of the Party, the army and people of Ba Ria – Vung Tau united to contribute to the Spring 1975 Offensive, culminating in the historic victory that fully liberated the South and reunified the country. On April 27, 1975, the flag of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam was hoisted over the Ba Ria Provincial Governor's Palace and Nha Tron Water Tower, marking one of the glorious milestones in the revolutionary struggle of this land. The resounding victories at Binh Gia, Long Phuoc, Hac Dich, and especially at Con Dao - known as the "hell on earth" - wove an immortal epic of patriotism, unyielding spirit, the yearning for peace, and national independence.

Half a Century of Construction and Development

From a land heavily scarred by war, Ba Ria – Vung Tau has gradually risen to become a key economic and tourism hub in southern Vietnam. Provincial Party Secretary Pham Viet Thanh emphasized that over the past 50 years, thanks to the attention and guidance of the Central Government, and the solidarity and determination of successive generations of officials, Party members, and citizens, the province has achieved comprehensive successes across all fields. Its GRDP has continuously maintained one of the highest growth rates in the region; its transportation infrastructure has become increasingly modern and synchronized; and it ranks among the top provinces in foreign investment attraction nationwide.

The province has also been a pioneer in implementing social security policies such as tuition fee exemptions, providing health insurance for the elderly, eradicating multidimensional poverty, and improving the quality of life for its citizens. Efforts to build the Party and the political system have been emphasized, with a more streamlined and efficient organizational apparatus, creating a solid foundation for sustainable development. Especially notable is Ba Ria – Vung Tau's resilience during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, successfully maintaining "green zones" of safety and rapidly recovering and breaking through after the pandemic. Throughout its development journey, the province has consistently upheld the viewpoint that economic growth must be coupled with improvements in people's living standards, without trading the environment or social welfare for mere growth.

Facing new national demands, Ba Ria – Vung Tau must continue to uphold the spirit of the 1975 Spring Victory, ignite innovation and creativity, and firmly advance on the path of integration and sustainable development,"  stated General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense.

Stepping Confidently into a New Era

"Ba Ria – Vung Tau today is the crystallization of an indomitable revolutionary tradition, a spirit of daring to think and act, unceasing innovation, and a burning aspiration to rise. After enduring countless hardships over the past 50 years, the province has transformed from a land of sorrow into a dynamic growth center within the Southern Key Economic Region. In this new era, with a fervent aspiration and steadfast determination, Ba Ria – Vung Tau will continue to break through, building a more prosperous, civilized, and modern homeland, making worthy contributions to the nation's development." – Mr. Pham Viet Thanh Secretary of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee.

In his speech at the anniversary celebration, Secretary Pham Viet Thanh emphasized that the 50th anniversary of liberation is not only an occasion to pay tribute to history but also marks a new chapter filled with great aspirations. With a strategic vision to become a regional hub for the marine economy, high-tech industry, logistics, financial services, commerce, and tourism, Ba Ria – Vung Tau is striving daily to align with the overall development trends.

In this crucial context, the province, along with Ho Chi Minh City and Bình Dương, is progressively realizing the plan to merge administrative boundaries, forming an expanded Ho Chi Minh City – a regional metropolitan hub and national economic driver. This is considered a historic revolution that opens significant opportunities for the province to further reach new heights and contribute more robustly to the nation’s overall development. The younger generation of Ba Ria – Vung Tau is expected to pioneer innovation, dare to dream big, and act decisively to continue the glorious revolutionary tradition of their forebears.

The Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Ba Ria – Vung Tau is not merely a moment to look back proudly on a glorious journey but also a rallying call towards the future. In this new era, with a strong spirit of renewal, unity, courage, and determination, Ba Ria – Vung Tau is poised to move forward alongside Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and other provinces across the country, living up to its heroic tradition and the trust and affection bestowed by the Party, the State, and the people.
