Luka Koper has been informed by the Brussels-based TEN-T Executive Agency - which was established by the European Commission to attend to the technical and financial implementation of the Pan-European Transport Network - that it was granted three new projects within the scope of the TEN-T programme, which is one of the most important executors of EU transport policy.
Within the context of its membership of NAPA (Northern Adriatic Ports Association), Luka Koper applied for two projects in relation to the 2012 TEN-T Annual Call.
The first project - NAPADRAG was applied for in conjunction with the Port of Venice, and shall encompass the dredging of Basin I at the Port of Koper to the depth of -15 m in order to service larger vessels, together with the disposal of dredged materials in the direct hinterland of the port. EU co-funding for this infrastructure development amounts to ten percent of the project value; thus Luka Koper has been granted some 750,000 €. This project is particularly significant due to the fact that this is the first time Luka Koper has acquired European funding for an infrastructural investment.
The NAPAPROG project, applied for with the Port of Trieste, includes the elaboration of project documentation for the extension of Pier I as well as an increase in Container Terminal capacity at the Port of Koper. EU co-funding in such studies amounts to fifty percent of the project value, hence Luka Koper anticipates a subsidy in the region of 260,000 €.
“Luka Koper has been very active in projects that form part of the EU 2007-2013 financial framework, and this has allowed the company to gain a lot of experience and credibility, both with our various participating partners as well as European institutions. Over the last two years, Luka Koper has drawn 1.83 million € in funding for studies and projects that shall provide solutions aimed at improving both operational processes and the functioning of the port as a whole,” commented the companys Management Board President Bojan Brank on news of Luka Koper’s most recent success in relation to EU calls for funding applications.
The third approved proposal is essentially a continuation of the successfully completed MOS4MOS (Monitoring and Operation Services for Motorways of the Sea) project. Called B2MoS (Business to Motorways of the Sea) it anticipates the upgrade of IT connections in support of logistics and safety processes in the implementation of sustainable transport solutions (with particular emphasis on seaways, port community systems and inter-modality). The Slovenian partners in the application were Luka Koper and Intereuropa whilst the project is headed by a Spanish partner - the Port of Valencia; there are also a number of other private and public participating partners from such countries as Germany, the UK, Italy and Greece. With 50% co-financing from the EU’s TEN-T Agency, Luka Koper expects to receive about 190,000 €.
