Ba Ria- Vung Tau (BR-VT) is a locality with many advantages in developing sea economy with activities as petrol exploitation, sea tourism, seaport and fishery…

For many recent years, with specific and consistent guidelines and policies, BR-VT has been recognized and evaluated as a leading locality in exploiting potentials and marine resources to develop the economy, bringing many positive achievement. The province has closely followed the practical situation, promoted and effectively utilized outstanding strengths of the locality. At the same time, it has made the most of and effectively use all domestic and foreign resources to build socio-economic infrastructure, especially the traffic system connecting the seaport system with national highways to turn BR- VT into a major regional and international seaport and logistics service center as well.

The province has invested in the development of Cai Mep - Thi Vai port system to make it become the first deep-water seaport of Vietnam and the 19th port of the world enable to receive super-large mother vessels, with a tonnage of up to 194,000 DWT. Currently, in BR-VT, there are 48/69 ports in operation, with the total designed capacity of 155.7 million tons/year; including 7 large container port projects with the capacity of 6.8 million TEUs/year. In order to promote the seaport system, BR-VT has mobilized investment capital to develop transport infrastructure connecting deep-water ports, connecting road and sea traffic with provinces in the Southern Key Economic Region.

According to the announcement of the list of Vietnamese seaports (Decision no.804/QD-TTg dated 8/72022 by Prime Minister) out of 34 seaports in Vietnam, along with Hai Phong seaport, BR-VT seaport was classified as a specialized seaport. In addition, to "take advantage" of the seaport system, the province has planned and built a system of industrial parks (IZs) associated with seaports. BR- VT has 15 industrial zones so far, with the total area of about 8,510 ha. Many investment projects are being implemented including PPP factory and LPG underground storage of Hyosung Group with investment capital of USD 1.2 billion; Petrochemical complex in the South with the investment capital of USD 5.4 billion; Long Son Power Center with the investment capital of USD 4.5 billion…

In seaport operation, BR-VT has had a good growth. Currently, the province is choosing investors to deploy the Cai Mep Ha logistics center project, with the area of ​​about 800 hectares to serve the regional and provincial international transshipment port system.

BR-VT being a maritime gateway of the Southeastern and having the most modern deep-water seaport system currently. This locality also has the second largest fishing fleet (after Kien Giang) with over 6,000 fishing boats and it is a famous landmarks on the marine tourism map of Vietnam…

In the field of marine tourism development, BR-VT province has 4 famous beach resorts in the country and the world, attracting millions of visitors each year: Vung Tau city, Long Hai - Phuoc Hai, Binh Chau - Ho Tram and Con Dao, with the advantage of being an island with ecological conditions that still retains its natural, unspoiled appearance and has a rich revolutionary history. BR- VT has been mobilizing resources to develop the island to become a unique national tourist area of regional and international stature.

It is known that the locality has also been setting a determination to turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector, focusing mainly on 5 tourist centers and tourist areas identified as Vung Tau city, Long Hai- Phuoc Hai tourist cluster, Nui Dinh- Ba Ria tourist cluster, Binh Chau - Ho Tram tourist cluster and Con Dao tourist cluster... The province has also had reviews of tourism projects that are slow to implement and calls for investments in BR-VT from right investors. On the other hand, to awaken sea-tourism potentials and create new tourism products, this province has built a dozen-kilometer coastal route connecting Vung Tau city with the districts of Long Dien, Dat Do, Xuyen Moc and with Binh Thuan is a few tens of kilometers long, passing through fishing villages. As a result, a series of investors in large tourism projects have come here, many projects with the investment capital of over billions of dollars.

For recent time, the province has identified tourism development as one of the important economic pillars of the province with the development orientation to become a high-quality, world-class tourism center. Currently, the sea and coastal areas from Vung Tau - Long Hai - Phuoc Hai - Binh Chau of the province and Con Dao district have been focused on developing tourism activities. In particular, the tourism economic dynamic axis of the province has been shaped in the Southeast coastal area along the coastal route of Vung Tau - Binh Thuan, with the chain of tourist urban centers of Vung Tau, Long Hai, Phuoc Hai, Loc An, Ho Tram, Binh Chau; developing the national tourist areas of Long Hai - Phuoc Hai, Ho Tram - Binh Chau and the national tourist area of Con Dao...

Along with economic development, BR-VT has focused on developing marine, coastal and coastal urban infrastructure, proactively responding to climate change, sea level rise and mobilizing resources, encouraging economic members of investment for sustainable development of the sea...

The province has been implementing focused investments in the period of 2021- 2025 to complete a coastal road connecting HCMC, Dong Nai, Long Thanh Airport and Binh Thuan with the length of 76km (going through 6/8 districts, towns and provincial cities), solving bottlenecks in linkage and forming a comprehensive sea economic corridor among other provinces and cities in the region, in the country and in the world.

Although BRVT province has many conditions to develop the marine economy, in fact exploiting and promoting advantages from the marine economy is still difficult and limited, especially in the exploitation, farming and protection of aquatic resources. Most recently, at the Conference of the Southern Key Economic Zone, most of the opinions said that the transport system connecting the region, connecting deep-water ports with major economic centers in the region is not very good and it has long become "bottlenecks" of development.

Recognizing matters, importance and position of BR-VT in the connecting role and driving force in regional economic development cooperation, the Party Committee and Government of BR-VT have had many guidelines and decisions with many specific solutions to promote the effective exploitation of the province's modern deep-water port system, along with synchronous solutions, innovation in attracting investment for economic development.
