Air France is in negotiations with European aircraft maker Airbus in a bid for compensation over recurrent problems linked to its A380 superjumbos, the airline told AFP Tuesday.

"Air France confirms it is in negotiations with Airbus over grounded aircraft," the company said in a statement.

The Les Echos French daily reported that the amount could reach tens of millions of euros (dollars).

Airbus has won more than 250 orders from 20 different companies for the A380 since it launched the plane in 2000.

But the worlds biggest passenger airliner has been plagued by the discovery of cracks in the wings of several of the A380s.

"Airbus is fully engaged to put in place technical solutions.. and progress all the discussions," Air France said.
