(VLR) DHL Global Forwarding, a provider of freight transportation services, has launched a new direct less than container load (LCL) service between Port Kelang in Malaysia and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

The new weekly LCL service between Port Kelang and Cat Lai will provide the transit time port to port of three days to save customers about 10 days as well as increase intra-Asia trade flows between the two countries.

The new service will transport goods to Vietnam and will save about 4% of CO2.

DHL Global Forwarding global head of LCL Management Marc Meier said that in 2011 two-way trade between Vietnam and Malaysia reached more than $4bn and this year the two countries proposed measures to increase their bilateral trade turnover to a $10bn threshold.

"With this new direct LCL service we are able to support our customers as their business volumes grow in tandem with this expected trade increase," Meier said.

Earlier in August 2102, DHL Global Forwarding had introduced an additional direct LCL service from Shanghai to Dubai.

Currently, DHL Global Forwarding operates LCL network with about 2,000,000 cubic meters of LCL freight handled annually through 45,000 point-pairs.
