Vietnam – China – Europe Rail Corridors: Can High-Value Exports Ride the New Wave?
As manufacturers diversify away from China and global shippers look for alternatives to congested sea lanes and expensive air freight, Vietnam’s rail links with China and onward to Europe are drawing renewed attention. From the Lao Cai–Hekou–Kunming and Dong Dang–Pingxiang–Nanning routes to intermodal trains transiting China to Russia and Europe, rail is emerging as a “third way” between low-cost but slow ocean freight and fast but costly air cargo.
