(Vietnam Logistics Review) It’s cool climate of a tropical highland, it’s nature, it’s rich local dishes, it’s European architectures, and it’s friendly people all make Dalat attractive to tourists and give them peaceful feelings.
Dalat city is located on LangbianPlateau with the height of 1,500m to the sea surface and with the area of about 400km2. It is about 300km from HCMC by car and about 30 minutes by plane from Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) to Lien Khuong Airport. Discovered by French Doctor Alexandre Yersin, it has developed since and become a resort center of Western style. The city attracts millions of tourists every year and brings back incomes of billions dong. According to Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourists, 40,000 tourists were there on the Nation’s Day this year.
Located in the height of over 1,500m and surrounded by mountains and plant communities, especially pine trees, Dalat has a mild climate all year round. With its highland climate, it is capable of growing temperate plants as potatoes, artichoke, asparagus, lettuce, strawberries… Its terrain is divided into distinguished types: mountainous terrain and plateau. Mountainous terrain surrounds the city center: LangBian Mountains in the North with the height of 2,176 meter lies from Da Sar Spring to Dankia lake; two mountains of Bi Doup and Cho Proline are located South East; high mountains and deep valleys in the South slope down to Prenn Pass.Lang Bian Mountain is a tourist attraction: tourists can climb the mountain, enjoy K’Ho gongs and listen to the legendary romance of Lang and Bian.
In the city center, tourists can enjoy both cool weather and the beauty of the city from its old atmosphere. In a temperature of 14-200C, they can stop by at a coffee shop in a walk around Xuan Huong Lake to have a cup of tea or coffee and feel themselves away from busy normal life.
Besides the attraction from climate, its sights also bring to tourists unforgettable feelings. Architectural works and nature offer tourists best shots. The city is also known as the City of Flowers: flowers can be seen everywhere- on roadsides, in alleys, walls, parks. The city seems to be a gathering place of flowers worldwide. And flowers vary each seasons. Those who come to the city in October and August can find the beauty of bright yellow wild sunflowers- the typical flowers of the city. It will be a pity if tourists miss a chance to visit Dalat College of Education (formerly Grand LyceeYersin)- the work recognized by UIA ( International Union of Architects) as one of 1,000 remarkable works in the 20th century. And they can stay in one of old villas to experience a mixed feeling of a luxury life and of being in wild nature.
What is more, tourists can enjoy local specialties- various types of jams: strawberries, peach, rose and tomatoes… A sweet taste of jam with a cup of tea in cool weather gives them a peaceful feeling. And they cannot miss a chance to enjoy various kinds of foods and street foods.
With a long time of developments of tourist, infrastructures and services, Dalat basically meets tourists’ needs. Friendly people, attractive places to visits, good local products and good services make Dalat not merely a place to pay a visit once.
