In the process of integration, through trade activities between countries and economic regions worldwide, there has been a positive impact on the overall development of global trade. For any economy, the circulation and distribution of goods and the exchange of trade between regions within a country and between countries are essential activities.

In practice, logistics not only ensures smooth, accurate, and safe circulation and distribution processes but also contributes to cost reduction, particularly in transportation expenses. Through efficient logistics services, goods can be brought to the market quickly and timely, enabling consumers to conveniently and flexibly satisfy their needs. Therefore, the role of logistics becomes increasingly important. Logistics can be seen as an effective tool to connect economic activities, ensure high-efficiency production and business operations, and optimize customer satisfaction.

According to Agility’s 2022 ranking, Vietnam’s logistics market ranks 11th among the top 50 emerging logistics markets globally, thanks to the strong transformation of companies providing and utilizing logistics services. The projected growth rate for Vietnam’s logistics market during the 2022-2030 period is 5.5%. Foreign investors also perceive Vietnam as having significant opportunities for developing logistics services.

In the context of international economic integration, the Vietnamese government has implemented various policies to realize the goals of developing a logistics center network, effectively meeting the needs of production and goods circulation, efficiently exploiting the logistics services market, and simultaneously raising the industry’s standards to an advanced level within the region and globally. These efforts aim to overcome difficulties and challenges, creating motivation for the country’s economic development.

By 2025, the contribution of logistics services to GDP is expected to reach 5%-6%, the growth rate of logistics services is expected to be 15%-20%, the outsourcing rate for logistics services is targeted to be 50%- 60%, the logistics cost is aimed to decrease by around 16%-20% of GDP, and the global Logistics Performance Index (LPI) ranking is aimed to be 50th or higher (Decision No. 221/TTg dated February 22, 2021, by the Prime Minister, amending and supplementing Decision No. 200/TTg dated February 14, 2017).

However, in the current objective reality, Vietnamese logistics enterprises are facing fierce competition from foreign logistics companies. Internally, the majority of our logistics service enterprises are small and medium-sized enterprises, providing services with limited value-added. As a result, foreign logistics companies have a higher market share in the logistics sector.

Based on the objective reality, the logistics industry in Vietnam needs to find solutions to maintain resilience, ensure the role of logistics in maintaining supply chains of goods and services, and develop appropriate visionary thinking and solutions to keep pace with the world, creating breakthroughs for economic and social recovery in 2023 and throughout the implementation period of the socio- economic development strategy from 2021 to 2030.
