The Role of Major Industrial Zones in Logistics Development

Binh Duong and Dong Nai are among the top industrial regions in Vietnam, boasting hundreds of industrial zones and export processing zones that attract both domestic and foreign investment. Thanks to the expansion of major industrial zones, the demand for freight transportation, storage, and supply chain management has become a driving force for the rapid development of the logistics industry.

In Binh Duong, large industrial zones like VSIP, My Phuoc, and Song Than are key factors in attracting logistics companies to invest and develop infrastructure. Similarly, Dong Nai, with industrial zones such as Amata, Long Thanh, and Nhon Trach, plays an important role in promoting the development of the logistics system, especially given its proximity to the Long Thanh Airport, currently under construction.

Strategic Location Near Seaports and Airports

One of the greatest strengths of the logistics system in Binh Duong and Dong Nai is their advantageous geographical location, near major seaports like Cat Lai and Thi Vai - Cai Mep, and international airports such as Tan Son Nhat, and in the future, Long Thanh Airport. This location facilitates fast and convenient connection of goods from industrial zones to international markets.

Cat Lai Port, one of the largest seaports in southern Vietnam, plays a vital role in the export and import of goods for businesses in Binh Duong and Dong Nai. From the industrial zones, goods can be swiftly transported to the port for overseas shipment, significantly saving time and costs.

Moreover, with Long Thanh Airport gradually taking shape, Dong Nai will gain a significant advantage in the development of air logistics. The airport is expected to become the largest international air transport hub in Vietnam, creating favorable conditions for international cargo transport activities, helping to ease the load on Tan Son Nhat Airport, and opening up many opportunities for logistics companies.

There Are Still Challenges in Traffic and Technical Infrastructure

Despite numerous advantages, the logistics system in Binh Duong and Dong Nai faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of traffic and technical infrastructure. The road network in these areas is under immense pressure, with frequent traffic congestion and overloading on the main routes connecting industrial zones (IZs) to seaports and city centers.

Key routes such as National Highway 1A, National Highway 13, and highways connecting Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City are facing deterioration and overcapacity. This not only affects the transportation time of goods but also increases logistics costs for businesses.

While technical infrastructure in industrial zones has been invested in, it is still inconsistent and requires upgrades. Warehouses, distribution centers, and supporting logistics services are still lacking, especially modern technologies such as smart warehouse management systems, automated transportation, and comprehensive supply chain management, which have not been widely implemented.

What Direction for Sustainable Logistics Development?

To address current challenges and ensure sustainable development, logistics companies and regulatory agencies need long-term strategies.

1. Investment in Transportation Infrastructure: Local governments need to focus on upgrading and expanding routes that connect industrial zones to seaports and airports. Building additional new highways and improving public transport systems to alleviate traffic congestion are critical.

2. Technology Application in Logistics: Promoting the application of high technology in warehouse management, transportation, and supply chain management is essential. Implementing technological solutions such as IoT, AI, and blockchain in logistics will help optimize operations and minimize errors.

3. Developing Green Logistics: To achieve sustainable development, logistics companies need to focus on reducing negative environmental impacts. Using energy-efficient transportation vehicles, building eco-friendly warehouses, and applying green standards in logistics operations are trends that should be strengthened.

Logistics in Binh Duong and Dong Nai is experiencing robust growth thanks to the rapid expansion of major industrial zones and advantageous geographical locations. However, to fully exploit this potential and address infrastructure and traffic challenges, close cooperation between regulatory agencies and businesses is essential in developing long-term strategies and applying technology to the industry. In the context of global competition, logistics development is not only a determining factor in business success but also a driver for the sustainable growth of the entire economy.
