Strategic Routes of Five New Cargo Airlines

The five new airlines joining ANC’s network include Awesome Cargo Airlines, Central Airlines of China, ASL Air Cargo, Aerologic Air Cargo, and CMA CGM Air Cargo. Each airline has chosen strategic routes to maximize the benefits Anchorage offers as a transit point.

• Awesome Cargo Airlines launched its services in July, operating an Airbus A330-200 on the Incheon (ICN)-ANC-Mexico City (MEX) route, thus linking Asian and North American markets.
• Central Airlines of China began operations in September with Boeing 777 flights on the Shenzhen (SZX)-ANC-Ontario (ONT), California route, directly connecting China to the U.S. West Coast.
• ASL Air Cargo, a Belgian carrier, currently operates several monthly flights on the Jinan Yaoqiang (TNA)-ANC-New York (JFK) route with a 747-400, a choice well-suited for long transcontinental routes.
• Aerologic Air Cargo initiated monthly flights from Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)-ANC-Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG) and Hong Kong (HKG)-ANC-CVG, servicing North America’s major logistics centers with 777 aircraft.
• CMA CGM Air Cargo has also officially joined with Airbus A330-200F routes from HKG-ANC-Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and HKG-ANC-Chicago O’Hare (ORD), offering additional options for operators at ANC.

Ambition to Develop a Global Cargo Hub

The addition of these new cargo airlines is part of Alaska’s long-term strategy to transform ANC into a global cargo hub. According to Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy, infrastructure expansion and enhancements to facilities such as warehouses and ramp space are crucial investments to meet the needs of modern freight carriers. He emphasized, “The involvement of these cargo carriers marks a significant milestone in ANC’s development strategy, contributing to the airport’s role as a vital connection point among major global markets.”

In addition to building new warehouses and expanding ramp space, Anchorage has seen substantial growth in cargo operations. Between fiscal year 2023 and fiscal year 2024, ANC’s cargo volume grew by 4.9%, and further growth of 2% is anticipated for fiscal year 2025.

Ryan Anderson, Commissioner of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, views the presence of these new carriers as proof of Anchorage’s strategic role in the global logistics network. “Anchorage has long played an important role in the international air cargo industry. The arrival of these new carriers not only reinforces our reputation but also helps us expand services for both existing and new logistics partners,” Anderson shared.

New routes from Asia, North America, and Europe showcase ANC’s diverse connectivity and its ability to efficiently meet modern logistics needs.
