The Mekong Lover project was developed by Focus Travel Group (FTG) a pioneer in Mekong river tourism alongside strategic partners in shipbuilding and maritime technology, including VISEC, SSIC, and VIMATEC. This collaboration ensures not only technical and aesthetic excellence but also enhanced safety standards and environmental protection, paving the way for sustainable development in Vietnam’s river tourism industry.

Indochine Inspiration on a Modern Cruise

Mekong Lover is not just a means of transportation but a luxurious floating retreat, seamlessly combining Indochinese architectural elegance with modern amenities. The ship’s interior is rich with exquisite wooden carvings, arched windows, and handcrafted ceramic tiles, reminiscent of the colonial-era villas in Saigon, Hanoi, and Phnom Penh.

Notably, the ship’s design is inspired by the historic Huynh Thuy Le House in Sa Dec, famously linked to the love story of French novelist Marguerite Duras. This fusion of nostalgia and sophistication offers travelers an immersive cultural experience as they journey along the Mekong River.

Vietnam as the New Center of Mekong River Cruising

Traditionally, international cruises operating on the Mekong River have prioritized Cambodian destinations, using Vietnam merely as a transit point. With Mekong Lover, the time spent in Vietnam has been extended, allowing travelers to delve deeper into the landscapes and culture of the Mekong Delta.

This new itinerary offers a more immersive journey, from visiting traditional craft villages, floating markets, and lush fruit orchards to savoring authentic local cuisine. Notably, instead of focusing primarily on Cambodian performances as before, guests will now have the opportunity to experience Vietnamese cultural arts, providing a more comprehensive appreciation of the region’s heritage.

Boosting the Local Economy

A longer stay means higher tourist spending, directly benefiting local businesses, restaurants, hotels, and artisans. This, in turn, creates more jobs and improves the livelihoods of communities along the river, establishing a sustainable model for river tourism growth.

A Leap Forward for Vietnam’s Shipbuilding Industry

Beyond tourism, Mekong Lover represents a turning point for Vietnam’s shipbuilding sector. For the first time, a fully Vietnam-designed, -constructed, and -operated cruise ship meets international standards. This milestone showcases Vietnam’s shipbuilding capabilities, opening doors for further expansion into the global market.

More importantly, this project serves as a strategic step forward, reinforcing Vietnam’s shipbuilding and tourism industries on the regional stage. If Vietnam continues to develop and optimize its cruise offerings, it has the potential to become a premier global destination for river tourism, further solidifying its status in the international travel market.
