(VLR) The event took place on February 12, 2025, at the Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, with the goal of raising awareness about green logistics, reducing carbon emissions, and motivating businesses in the industry to move towards a sustainable development model.

Vietnam’s logistics sector is facing a significant opportunity as it hosts the FIATA World Congress 2025 (FWC 2025) – the most important global event in the logistics industry – for the first time. To prepare for this event and promote sustainable development, the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA) has organized a series of events under the Road Show: Green Logistics – The Path to Sustainability.

Vietnam Officially Hosts FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025

At the opening of the conference, Mr. Dao Trong Khoa, Chairman of VLA, affirmed:

After relentless efforts since 2017, the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA) has officially succeeded in representing Vietnam to host FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025 – the largest and most significant event in the global logistics industry. The event is expected to attract 1,200 – 1,500 delegates from 150 countries, including leading organizations and heads of international logistics associations."

FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025 will not only be a platform for logistics businesses but also create opportunities for Vietnamese import-export enterprises to promote international trade and expand their global supply chain network. The thematic workshops will bring together top experts and business leaders to discuss emerging trends such as cross-border e-commerce, green logistics, flexible supply chains, and next-generation transportation.

Green Logistics – An Inevitable Trend in the Transport Industry

Amid climate change and increasingly stringent CO₂ emission reduction commitments, green logistics is not just a trend but a necessity for the transport industry to maintain sustainable growth.

According to a United Nations report, the logistics sector accounts for approximately 14% of global CO₂ emissions, with road transport being the largest contributor.

The message of the event is to raise awareness about green logistics, reduce carbon emissions, and inspire businesses in the industry to move towards a sustainable development model

In Vietnam, the logistics industry is facing multiple challenges, including:

  • Inadequate infrastructure, leading to fuel waste and increased emissions.
  • Limited application of green technology, with most trucks still relying on fossil fuels.
  • High costs of transitioning to green logistics, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

With pressure from free trade agreements (FTAs) such as EVFTA and CPTPP, reducing emissions and developing sustainable logistics are key factors for businesses to enhance their competitiveness in the international market.

FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025 will be held under the theme "Green and Resilient Supply Chains," reflecting Vietnam’s vision and commitment to building a sustainable, eco-friendly logistics industry that can swiftly adapt to global market changes.

During the preparation for this event, VLA has received strong support and guidance from the Government and ministries. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh personally met with the FIATA delegation twice in 2023 and 2024, demonstrating strong backing and directing relevant agencies to ensure the event’s success.

FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025 represents a major opportunity for Vietnam to assert its position on the global logistics map and accelerate the development of a sustainable logistics sector in the region.

Road Show: A Stepping Stone for FIATA World Congress 2025

The Road Show: Green Logistics – The Path to Sustainability is being organized by VLA to introduce FIATA World Congress 2025 and promote green initiatives within Vietnam’s logistics sector.

The event will bring together leading logistics enterprises, international logistics experts, and relevant organizations, creating opportunities for networking, experience-sharing, and fostering strategic partnerships.

FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025 is expected to bring together more than 1,000 leading global logistics businesses, opening up opportunities for business connections and attracting strong investment into Vietnam. This is not only a forum for industry leaders to set trends but also a valuable opportunity for SMEs to access the market, expand cooperation, and integrate into the global supply chain right from Vietnam.

In addition to an exhibition with over 100 booths, the B2B business matchmaking program will enable logistics companies to find strategic partners, expand their markets, and leverage the benefits of Vietnam’s free trade agreements.

The thematic discussions will cover critical topics such as:

  • Investment and business opportunities in Asia
  • Cross-border e-commerce and logistics
  • Eco-friendly transportation (rail, waterways)
  • New customs regulations and global trade integration

Carbon Emission Reduction in Logistics: From Strategy to Practice

Vietnam has committed to Net Zero by 2050 and is actively engaged in business relations with the European Union. Therefore, Vietnamese enterprises must embrace smart mobility, digitalization, and new technologies to reduce CO₂ emissions in their operations." - Mr. Stéphan Graber, Secretary-General of FIATA

During the workshop held as part of the Road Show, experts focused on practical solutions to help businesses reduce carbon emissions, including:

  • Green technology adoption: Using electric vehicles, biofuels, and energy-efficient technologies.
  • Supply chain optimization: Reducing empty truck runs, utilizing smart warehouses, and modern transport management systems.
  • Digital transformation: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data to optimize transport routes.

Implementing green logistics not only reduces environmental impact but also helps businesses save fuel costs, improve operational efficiency, and meet international standards.

The Road Show: Green Logistics – The Path to Sustainability marks a crucial milestone, helping Vietnamese enterprises align with the global sustainable logistics trend. It also serves as a strategic preparation for FIATA World Congress 2025, reinforcing Vietnam’s position in logistics and supply chain management.

In the coming months, VLA will continue gathering industry challenges and concerns to present to relevant authorities and incorporate them into the key agenda of FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2025, which will take place in October next year in Hanoi.

With the support of businesses, experts, and regulatory agencies, Vietnam’s logistics industry is poised for transformation, building a green, modern, and globally integrated transport ecosystem.
