Vietnam’s logistics growth holds not only local significance but also strategic importance for global supply chains. Situated in the heart of Southeast Asia, Vietnam has an extensive coastline and a well-established network of seaports that connect with major Asian transportation routes. This positioning facilitates smooth movement of goods among major markets such as China, Japan, South Korea, ASEAN, and beyond.
Vietnam is rapidly emerging as the “new logistics hub” of the region, driving companies like Maersk to expand and invest in infrastructure that serves customers with greater flexibility and efficiency.
Strategic Location at Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park
Maersk's bonded warehouse is located in SLP Park, Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park in Hai Phong, an ideal gateway for international transport in Northern Vietnam. Close to the seaport, this warehouse not only optimizes international goods movement but also integrates seamlessly with Maersk’s warehousing network and the soon-to-be-completed Lach Huyen port project, developed in collaboration with strategic partners APM Terminals and Hateco. This will strongly support faster import-export processes, reduce costs, and meet customer needs.
Mr. Lasse Pedersen Hjortshøj, Commercial Attaché at the Danish Embassy, also attended the event to show support for Maersk’s investment and development efforts in Vietnam, as the country increasingly becomes a key logistics hub in Southeast Asia.
Modern Technology Ensures Safety and Efficiency
The bonded warehouse is equipped with advanced technologies, including a modern racking system and an inventory control process utilizing high-accuracy automated barcoding. Maersk has also focused on energy efficiency, installing natural light roofing panels, LED lighting, and motion sensors in office and public areas to significantly reduce electricity consumption.
Additionally, the warehouse meets the highest safety standards with an automatic sprinkler system and 24/7 security monitoring. With these facilities, Maersk's bonded warehouse not only meets storage requirements but also provides optimized storage and distribution processes, enabling businesses to manage goods more flexibly.
Amazon Vietnam: First Customer and Long-Term Partner
Amazon Vietnam became the first customer of Maersk's bonded warehouse in October, demonstrating confidence in the company’s modern logistics infrastructure. Mr. Chris Ji, Senior Manager of GXD Origin Operation at Amazon, stated: “We are delighted that Maersk’s new bonded warehouse is now operational in Vietnam. Over the past three years of collaboration, Maersk has shown a strong commitment to optimal operations and customer focus, which has greatly contributed to our growth.”
This partnership helps Maersk enhance its storage and transport processes and reinforces its long-term commitment to providing high-quality logistics services. Furthermore, the collaboration between Maersk and Amazon lays a foundation for expanding cross-border e-commerce, a sector with significant growth potential in Vietnam.
Maersk’s Commitment to Sustainable Development in Vietnam
With a goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, Maersk continues to invest in sustainable and eco-friendly logistics infrastructure. Its partnership with SLP—one of Southeast Asia’s leading industrial and logistics infrastructure developers—demonstrates this commitment. Mr. Edwin Chee, CEO of SLP, shared: “We are honored that Maersk chose SLP as a trusted partner to launch its first bonded warehouse in Vietnam. This collaboration highlights our commitment to providing top-tier logistics solutions for our clients.”
The opening of this bonded warehouse in Hai Phong is a strategic move by Maersk as Vietnam increasingly establishes itself as Southeast Asia's leading logistics hub. Modern logistics infrastructure, a young workforce, and rising foreign investment have made Vietnam an attractive destination for international investors.
In addition to expanding its scale, Maersk is committed to supporting sustainable development, thereby making a positive contribution to Vietnam's economy and environment. This shift in Maersk’s strategy reflects its goal to provide comprehensive, sustainable, and high-efficiency logistics solutions for customers. The investment in this bonded warehouse not only brings tangible benefits to businesses but also opens new opportunities for Vietnam’s logistics industry, contributing to economic growth and strengthening regional supply chains.
