Recently, the Northern region has been attracting a lot of attention with its unique and appealing tourist destinations. These places are created by simple living spaces that, through imagination and creativity, have been transformed into romantic and poetic landscapes, attracting visitors to experience their everyday living environment.

The lotus ponds in summer

Lotus, an easy-to-grow and beautiful flower with a pleasant fragrance, holds significant economic value. In the northern provinces, lotus cannot survive year-round like in the southern region. Lotuses thrive during the summer, blooming abundantly and producing seeds. Towards the end of summer and beginning of autumn, the vast lotus ponds gradually wither and return the clear surface of the lake during winter. Despite the bitter cold, the lotus ponds start to sprout from the dormant bulbs buried in the mud throughout the chilly season. Perhaps, to adapt to the weather, the lotus' vitality is fierce, and within a few days, the entire lake is covered with them. The lotus buds emerge and bloom, transforming the lake into a magnificent scene of white and pink, exuding a cool and refreshing fragrance that soothes the intense heat of summer.

The lotus pond owner, holding a fresh bunch of flowers cut from the waterlogged pond, shared that he takes care of this lotus pond and welcomes hundreds of visitors every day for photography sessions. He only charges for the flowers he sells, without any entrance fee for the pond. Each bouquet contains 20 flowers, and he sells it for 100,000 Vietnamese dong. However, to make the bouquets look fuller and please the guests even more, he often adds more flowers, sometimes 26 or even 30. He said that selling and giving away flowers together brings more joy.

Local residents only need to bring a few lotus bulbs, then plant them in spacious ponds, and it doesn't take long for the lotus to cover the entire pond. The green color of the leaves, the red and white hues of the flowers, create a harmonious and idyllic landscape.

In the afternoon, both adults and children fly kites, ride bikes, and sit by the lotus ponds drinking water. These lotus ponds have become popular photo spots for many enthusiasts of this flower. People come from all over, wearing traditional outfits like áo yếm, áo dài, scarves, and headgear, along with a bouquet of lotus flowers picked from
beneath the pond. They capture poetic and vibrant photos amidst the lotus ponds, blending with the romantic sunset

He also mentioned that every afternoon, he usually picks the lotus buds about to bloom to sell in the city rather than letting the flowers wither and produce seeds. Selling flowers from multi-petaled lotus varieties is more profitable than nurturing seeds because the seeds are uncertain and not as delicious as the few-petaled pink lotus variety.

In many northern provinces, local residents have built their own resorts and beautiful landscapes to serve their daily lives. The fragrant lotus ponds have multiplied, with people taking care of them instead of letting them grow wild like before. And throughout Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Hai Duong, people are becoming more aware of these vibrant and gentle lotus ponds.

Boating in lush lychee orchards

Traditionally, farmers primarily cultivated and sold lychees to generate income. However, these lychee orchards now offer farmers additional sources of revenue.

For nearby visitors, especially those from the capital city of Hanoi, seeking refuge from the scorching heat, suffocating high-rise buildings, and the cacophony of traffic, they gather to the lychee orchards during the ripe lychee season. They get to boat along the picturesque canals, surrounded by vibrant green water, blending with the shade of trees. Most importantly, they savor the freshly picked lychees straight from the trees. The taste of these lychees is sweeter, fresher, and more delicious than those found in supermarkets or fruit markets.

To facilitate irrigation, drainage canals were dug when planning the lychee cultivation. For the convenience of tourism development, farmers planted lotus and gunnera flowers between the water channels. Concrete paths were constructed for easy access for visitors.

These orchards not only attract tourists from nearby regions but also welcome many visitors from the southern part of the country. Lychees are considered an exotic fruit for people in the southern regions, and the experience of sitting in a boat amidst the trees in the Northern region is intriguing to them.

The ecotourism model in rural areas not only increases the income of local residents but also directly promotes the product to consumers. These serene and harmonious landscapes, in harmony with nature, should be encouraged throughout the beautiful Vietnamese countryside, adding flavor and happiness to people's lives.
